Everglades Painting by artist Jo-Ann Sanborn

Today's Everglades painting is one that I've been working on for a while. It's not done yet because I can't get it quite right. I like the color scheme, so it may be the color temperature. The light is cool, and the colors are as cool in the sun as they are in the shade. Warm up the shadows? Tried it. Warm up the light and cool down the shadows? Tried it.

On the other hand, may be it's the composition. There's a problem with the integration of the parts of the landscape. Rather than look like two groups of friendly palms, these look more like a confrontation ready for a gang war.

So, this holiday weekend with family visiting and so many things on my mind I don't have a "daily" for you. But feel free to comment on this 18x24 size that's driving me nuts!

Gang wars! I laughed.
It's hard for us to see the forest for the damn trees.
If you hadn't brought it up, I wouldn't even be thinking about why it's driving you nuts, but then it's like the pimple on my nose when I was 17 that I thought was all anyone saw when I left the house.

OK, so what if you added a few "bridge in the background " trees to connect the Bloods and the Crips, and maybe one taller gang member in the left hand side of the tree clusters. They're the same height whereas the group on the right has staggered heights.
That's all I could add. Nothing else sounds alarms.

Funny, I'm working on one now that I've tried and wiped about 4 times and am thinking of giving it up.

Sometimes giving up and starting over is the path to take--so hard to know when, because sometimes the struggle to get it right is the thing that teaches.

Your suggestions are welcome, and I'll give it a try. Luckily changes are easy with acrylics. I'll let you know if it ever comes out of the closet again!
